Natural Vitamin E:
When in college I took on an assignment in biochemistry to discover the workings of Vitamin E. I was fascinated at how Vitamin E acted as an antioxidant and preserved the membrane of the cell by interdigitating with the lipid bilayer of the cell wall and preventing the lipid layer from undergoing oxidation and thus destruction from free radicals. That wasbefore interest in antioxidants became rightfully vogue. Now with antioxidants taking center stage on the nutritional scene Vitamin E and its antioxidant properties have been more greatly appreciated. We are now finding that Vitamin E is sitting at the core of how every cell is working in our bodies!
A recent study that examined the effects of both Vitamin E and selegiline, a prescription antioxidant drug, on patients with moderately severe Alzheimer’s disease, showed that patients who received a daily dose of 2000IU of Vitamin E were able to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease by as much as seven months. This was more effective than the use of selegiline and because it is natural and not a drug, a lot more safe.
I always marveled how wonderful information like this would come out of research studies and then it would be business as usual in the way that medicine treated disease. I remember in 1978 while at UC LA School of Public Health Nutrition I read several articles in the New England Journal of Medicine pointing up results that showed how garlic was able to reduce serum cholesterol levels as effectively as the drug of choice at that time. I ran through the halls of UCLA waving this report to my fellow classmates and proclaiming it would shortly be implemented in medical treatment as a cure for high cholesterol levels. A victory for the natural healing community and validated by the medical communities own prestigious publication. Only now, on this eve of 1998, twenty years after that 1978 publication has the victory been realized and use of garlic implemented as a viable way to reduce serum cholesterol.
Let’s hope that Vitamin E is recognized today for it’s benefits in maintaining a higher quality of life, allowing for people to have more time to lead productive lives, engage in meaningful relationships and participate in treasured activities. Just recently it was shown that the herb Ginkgo Bilboa, known for it’s potent antioxidant qualities among many other nutritional benefits, was also effective in reducing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. It is reasonable to conclude that it is by protecting tissue from oxidative destruction that both Vitamin E and Ginkgo Bilboa protect valuable living tissue.
Not only has Vitamin E been shown helpful as an antioxidant and an inhibitor of chemical carcinogens, but it has been shown to improve the immune response as well. Vitamin E prolongs the life of red blood cells and helps the body to fully utilize Vitamin A. It helps to protect unsaturated fats from breaking down abnormally and creating free radicals. Vitamin E can be found naturally in Vegetable Oils, Nuts, and Green Leafy Vegetables. Cooking and commercial processing can destroy Vitamin E. The optimum dosage to produce an enhanced immune response has been shown by this study to be somewhere between 200 and 800 mg per day. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble Vitamin and as such it should not be taken alone but along with other foods that contain fats, and the right fats as well. I recommend 400 IU of Natural Vitamin E per day.
Natural Vitamin E is much different from synthetic Vitamin E. The synthetic Vitamin E, called dl-alpha-tocopherol on labels, is a "racemic" mixture of tocopherols manufactured from petrochemicals! In other words the oil cartels form of Vitamin E contains 7 other molecular forms of Vitamin E that are far less active then the natural Vitamin E, and could pose "sterochemical hindrance" to our metabolism rather than help.
You should be aware when purchasing Vitamin E. that even if a label says only "alpha" and doesn’t include either the "d" or "dl-" designation, it must be suspected that it is the synthetic petrochemical type. Natural source Vitamin E is a reddish brown oil, while synthetic Vitamin E is a yellow to amber color. Natural Vitamin E will say natural and d-alpha-tocopherol or RRR-alpha-tocopherol. Synthetic may say all-rac-alpha tocopherol. The natural Vitamin E is shown to be twice or thrice as effective as the synthetic Vitamin E in the human body. If you are buying the Vitamin E for application to your skin then the tocopherol versions are better than the tocopheryl acetates because the tocopheryls need to be digested before they are changed to the active tochpherol form, (notice the "yl" and "ol" endings). Natural tocopherols will maintain high potency on the shelf for 3 years while tochpheryls will maintain high potency on the shelf for 5 years.
If you are eating a balanced diet and avoiding all refined sugar and sugar products, using either butter, Ghee (clarified butter), flax oil, olive oil, or Udo’s Perfected Oil, as your fat intake, the Vitamin E you take will be absorbed and incorporated into the body tissues along with those fats that heal. It is never just one nutrient that makes all the difference, it is the balanced use of all nutrients and a lifestyle that becomes more perfected each day as you monitor the effects that each substance, both nutritional and social on your body.

Miraculous, Ancient, Venerable Ginkgo Biloba:
Miraculous, Ancient, Venerable Ginkgo Biloba
In my last newsletter on Vitamin E, I mentioned that Ginkgo Biloba had been recently shown to have very positive influence of reducing the negative effects of Alzheimer's disease. In this study, reported in the Oct. 22 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, 309 Alzheimer patients were treated for one year. Researchers concluded that Ginkgo Biloba extract appeared to stabilize, and in 20% of the cases, improved the patients functioning for 6 months to one year. Less than 1% of patients experienced side effects, and those side effects consisted only of mild gastrointestinal upset, or mild headaches (interesting, since it cured my headaches). 50% of patients showed no improvement in memory, but they showed no further signs of memory loss.
When I was 10 years old I started getting headaches, awful migraine headaches. Since then I have done everything to find the solution, the natural cure to those headaches. I started by going to the M.D. for a prescription when I was 10. I don't know what the prescription drug was, but it did not work, and I can only guess what potential side effects that drug carried, and I am sure higher than the 1% rate of ginkgo and a lot more serious than upset stomachs. To a large degree these headaches were responsible for my becoming interested in natural healing at a very young age. A blessing if you will. I tried everything from yoga to salt free diets to breathing exercises and a sugar free diet.
Fruitarian to Macrobiotic.
Everything I tried did help to some degree, if only to broaden my understanding of natural healing and get me closer to a cure. But it was not until I found Ginkgo Biloba extract and started a regular regime of this wonderful herb that I began to experience life without those terrible and constant headaches.
My story is not nearly as scientific as the Alzeheimer's one, but given the hundreds of recent studies that catalog the extreme benefits of this herb I believe that Ginkgo Biloba did have a large part to do with the disappearance of my chronic and painful headaches. I will try to elucidate some possible mechanisms in this newsletter by which this incredible herb may have helped me... and may help you!
Ginkgo's Effects.
Ginkgo Biloba has three main effects on the body...It improves the quality and quantity of the microcirculation, which in turn improves circulation the vital tissues and organs, such as the heart and the brain, the ears and the eyes. As an antioxidant It helps stop the damage to our organs from potentially dangerous chemicals called free radicals, and it blocks a common allergic substance in our body called platelet-activating factor (PAF) which may help cause disease such as asthma, heart disease, hearing disorders and skin disorders such as psoriasis. Ginkgo's many beneficial effects, all of which have been proven in scientific studies are numerous.
Ginkgo effects the body in four main places...the brain, the ears, the eyes, and the lungs.
As an antioxidant it inhibits free radicals and prevents damage in tissues such as the retina and brain where potent ginkgolides are concentrated. In a small double blind clinical study, the patients receiving Ginkgo at 80mg per day for 6 months showed significant improvement in acuity of distance vision.
Ginkgo enhances microcirculation by releasing a hormone like substance called prostacylin which helps blood vessels to dilate. It increases the uptake and utilization of oxygen and glucose in the tissues of the body, including the brain, ears, eyes, and extremities. Peripheral Arterial Insufficiency has been shown to be significantly relieved by taking 40 mg of Ginkgo three times per day.
Ginkgo regulates or increases brain metabolism thus counteracting depression.
It helps to protect against memory loss, depression, and senility by helping to regulate neurotransmitter activity. As we age acetylcholine looses it's ability to bind to certain areas of the brain called muscarinic receptors...a trait associated with Alzheimer's patients. Ginkgo is proven to increase the ability of acetylcholine to bind to these important areas in the brain.
Ginkgo acting as an antioxidant has been shown to protect the covering on the nerves, called myelin, from some kinds of damage. Free radicals are normally produced by the bodies own immune cells to help combat invading pathogens and are later mopped up by enzymes in the body created specifically for this job. Put the body under the stress of saturated and processed fats, radiation from a weakened ozone layer, herbicides, pesticides, pollutants such as lead and other toxic metals, our high paced lifestyle, exhaust and our bodies produce way more free radicals than they should and can not cope with the mop up job. Ginkgo acts as a potent free radical scavenger.
Ginkgo acting as an antioxidant has been shown to protect against and in some cases to restore impaired hearing, especially when the damage is due to loud noise or infection. It helps the hearing organ to adapt to noise more quickly and it has also been shown to effectively reduce dizziness, vertigo, and other equilibrium problems. 60 to 160 mg of ginkgo was shown to be effective for these symptoms in up to 80% of the patients... significantly better than with placebo.
Ginkgo shows anti-bacterial and anti-candida activity.
Ginkgo Biloba extract may inhibit the activity of PAF (platelet activating factor), a phospholipid normally released by human immune cells to create inflammation and enhance the blood clotting process, but which under stress is overproduced. Excess PAF due to a nutrient poor diet, high fat and wrong fat, alcohol and various medical drugs can make platelets sticky and prone to clumping together, clogging small blood vessels, and may exacerbate asthma, brain damage, retina and cornea damage, and stroke. The terpene lactones in Ginkgo have been shown to prevent PAF from binding to platelets and thus prevent the whole range of undesirable list of effects, including arterial thrombosis and spasm of the coronary artery resulting from the lack of sufficient blood to the heart muscle.
And the list goes on and on with study after study of the marvelous herbs many abilities. With a list like this it should be clear that this is a must on your supplement list regardless of age or condition!
Although it's benefits are myriad, research on Ginkgo Biloba extract has focused on its ability to improve circulation to the brain, as well as the the extremities. In a recent double blind study (one in which neither the patients or the researchers know who gets the ginkgo), patients between the ages of 50 and 75 who were diagnosed with mild to moderately severe Alzeimer's were randomly separated into two groups and treated for three months. Improvements in memory and attention were perceived as early as one month and continued for 3 months in those who received the ginkgo. There was no improvement in the group who got the placebo. The Ginkgo patients also showed strong improvements in mental clarity, mood, appetite, emotional stability, motivation, and initiation along with decreases in orientation disturbances, depression and anxiety.
Ginkgo's antioxidant activity in the brain and central nervous system, retina, and the cardiovascular system has a positive influence on many of the chronic diseases of aging, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease, that are caused by free radical damage. Widespread tissue effects such as membrane stabilization, antioxidant activity, and a multitude of vascular and biochemical effects result in increased blood flow to the brain and extremities, thus enhancing their utilization of oxygen and glucose.
Capillaries in the brain are different from those elsewhere in the body. Most capillaries have tiny "slit pores" that permit nutrients and toxins to diffuse into the surrounding tissue. These capillaries are somewhat like a soaker hose, while those in the brain, without slit pores, must be totally leak proof without damage or tears. Molecules can only pass through cerebral capillaries by active transport with certain carrier molecules. Thus the brain is very selective about what enters it's delicate valuable tissue.
Because they constitute the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) cerebral capillaries are essential to protecting the brain from toxins that get into the bloodstream. The rest of the BBB is composed of glial cells, a family of brain cells outnumbering neurons ten to one, that regulate what substances reach the neurons.
The structure of the BBB capillaries must be extremely taut and strong. Ginkgo helps to preserve and protect the integrity of the BBB by acting as an antioxidant, thus helping to maintain normal neural structure over a lifetime. The more the BBB is compromised the more toxins such as aluminum, mercury, lead, pesticide residues, and other toxins can access the brain and damage cells. Not only does the Ginkgo protect the BBB, but it helps to keep free radicals in check that are spawned by the high concentration of both fats, lipids, of which the brain is primarily composed, and oxygen found in high concentrations in the brain. The flavone glycosides and proanthocyanidins found in Ginkgo are particularly effective in quenching hydroxyl radical and the superoxide anion radical, both specifically damaging to the blood vessels.
Ancient Herb
We are not the only ones to have "discovered" Ginkgo. The fossil record of Ginkgo Biloba, also known as the Maidenhair tree, dates back some 200 million years, since then it has survive unchanged. Some Ginkgos live to well over 1,000 years old. Ginkgos is so hardy that it was the only tree to survive the atomic blast at Hiroshima. Originally, a native of North America and Europe, the Ginkgo was nearly wiped out during the last Ice Age, surviving only in Asia. The medicinal uses of ginkgo can be traced back nearly 5000 years in traditional Chinese medicine. The fan shaped Ginkgo leaves were recognized for their value in treating asthma and chilblains (a swelling caused by uneven warming of chilled blood vessels...frostbite), as well as memory loss in the elderly, impaired hearing, and lung weakness. It was also used to increase sexual energy and generally promote longevity. The Ginkgo came to be cultivated in China as a sacred tree. Dutch traders brought the first ginkgo's to Europe from Japan in 1727. The English called it "Maidenhair tree". The name bilboa was added by the famous Swedish botanist, Linnaeus, because of the Ginkgo leaf's two lobes. Their beautiful shape inspired Goethe to compose a poem in honor of the Ginkgo, whose leaf he considered a symbol of the heart. I will try to find that poem and publish it later in a newsletter.
Dosage and Safety.
In almost all of the studies I have mentioned above, Ginkgo has been administered as a Standardized Extract (24%). The dosage has varied from 40 to 400 mg per day with little to no side effects in any case. For general maintenance an effective dose would be either 40 mg 3 times per day or 120mg once per day.
Given the logistics and stresses of modern society, and to provide a more therapeutic level of glycosides it is probably wiser to take the one 120mg tablet once or twice per day.
In a test with 8,505 patients taking Ginkgo for 6 months, only 0.4% (33 people) experienced minor side effects of mild stomach upset. You would expect more stomach upset from water than this.
Search for Health.
I see no reason why we can not consider this ancient herb just as sacred as the Chinese due to it's almost miraculous healing effects! When Ginkgo supplementation is combined in a holistic way with exercise, and stretching or yoga, a diet focused on rich organic foods, complete and total abstinence from refined sugar, proper use of oils such as flax oil or my favorite, Udo's perfect blend oil, intelligent supplementation with other vitamins, herbs and minerals, daily breathing and meditation exercises, lots of pure water...there can be no question of the positive life enhancing results! In fact we can consider all life as sacred!
It is hard to believe, but it took me 20 years to find Ginkgo as one of the major keys in curing my chronic migraine headaches. The road to health is a constant climb. Our bodies are all unique and individual and each of us must seek out our own cures in their proper proportions and at the right times. No herb is right for every person at every time, but Ginkgo is possibly just one of the few exceptions to this rule. Given the almost ubiquitous healing properties of Ginkgo and it's almost non existent toxicity or side effects this would be one herb the should be on every ones daily list.
It astounds me that an herb that's been in the healing circles for over 1000 years could have eluded my attention for so long, could have eluded our society for so long! With the growth in communications and the availability of information I hope it will not take this long for others to find this miraculous herb that has brought me such an improvement in my health and joy of life

DHA Building Blocks:
Breakfast
I just took my DHA, my Ginkgo, vitamin E, along with a breakfast of steamed millet, broccoli and "okara" patties (a soybean burger found in most health food stores freezer sections). I now feel ready to tackle the task of writing this newsletter!
DHA is Good Fat
Fat is good, contrary to what society would have us believe that fat is "bad". Certain "good" fats have been eliminated from our diets as the result of our "cutting back" on saturated fats.
The Brain and DHA
Few people know that the human brain is comprised of over 60% fat or that its most abundant fat is called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).Say that several times in a row to get get the rhythm of it! DHA is an omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (not to be confused with the hormone DHEA). It is the primary structural fat in both the gray matter of the brain and the retina of the eye. DHA is essential for brain and eye development and function.
Sources of DHA
Our bodies do not adequately synthesize DHA. Therefore, it is necessary to get DHA from our diets. The average American's diet, however, is now low in DHA, resulting from declining consumption of dietary sources such as animal organ meats and eggs, thank goodness. Fatty fish are also a good source, but most Americans do not consume the 3 to 4 servings per week necessary for adequate DHA intake. Vegetarians have even lower blood levels of DHA due to its absence in most foods of plant origin. Research has been undertaken to determine whether this dietary shift in DHA plays a role in the occurrence of certain neurological disorders throughout life.
DHA and Infant Brain Growth
Adequate dietary intake of DHA is particularly important for pregnant and nursing women. Significant brain and eye development occurs in utero and continues during the first year after birth. Infants rely on their mothers to supply DHA for the developing brain and eyes initially through the placenta and then through the breast milk. DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in breast milk and studies show that breast-fed babies have IQ advantages over babies fed formula without DHA. In a recent breastfeeding study, these IQ advantages were translated into improved academic outcomes over an 18 year time period. But, the average DHA level in the breast milk of American women is among the lowest in the world. Supplementation of DHA will elevate the levels in the blood supplying the placenta during pregnancy and the breast milk during lactation. This in turn elevates the baby's levels of DHA.
So important is DHA to the development of healthy nervous tissue in infants that an expert committee of the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization has recommended that DHA be included in infant formulas at levels comparable to those found in mother's milk. Yet DHA levels in breast milk of American Women rank among the lowest in the world, and DHA is still not available in U.S. infant formulas.
DHA and Baby Boomer Adults
Humans require DHA not only during the first few years of life but over their entire life span. Cells in the brain, retina, and other parts of the nervous system have connecting arms that transport electrical currents, sending messages throughout the body. DHA's presence in the nerve cell membrane ensures the optimal composition of these cells for the most effective transmission of these signals. Low levels of DHA have been correlated with mood changes, memory loss, and other mental and visual disorders.
Optimal levels of DHA has been associated with optimal memory function, visual acuity, and maintaining a positive mental state. The bodies ability to synthesize DHA, which is very limited in human beings to begin with, may decline even further with age. Research suggests that aging interferes with the activity of delta-6-desaturase, the enzyme involved in the conversion of omega-3 fatty acids into DHA. Elderly people with inadequate or DHA deficient diets may benefit from a supplementary source of DHA.
DHA...Source and Dosage
Until recently, those interested in elevating their DHA levels had to eat fish every day or take fish oils. Fish oils, however, can contain pollutants and toxins as well as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid, not recommended for infants or children), a fat which has been shown to prolong bleeding time. A new source of DHA is now available. Brinkley's Best carries Neuromins DHA, produced from microalgae under tightly controlled manufacturing conditions, and provides the only commercially available vegetable source of DHA. Fish obtain their DHA from microalgae as well...the same nutritional source for our Neuromins DHA. 200mg, or two capsules per day may be especially beneficial for pregnant or nursing women.100mg (my dosage) may be effective in helping to maintain and enhance the function of adult nervous tissue.
DHA and "I am the King of the World"
Just now am I beginning to feel the DHA kick in from when I took it at the start writing this newsletter just after breakfast... neurons synapsing and tingling, ideas flowing in a great cascade of inspiration, vibrant colors intensifying, joy and effulgence everywhere present, beauty transcendent, bliss, bliss, bliss......Now, I am the King of the world! Well, maybe I am getting a bit dramatic, actually "Titanically Dramatic".

ENADA®/NADA:
NADH is a Vitamin...The Vitamin Niacin buffed Out!
ENADA®/NADH....NADH is Coenzyme 1 (one). NADH is the abbreviation for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. The ‘H’ stands for hydrogen and indicates that it is the metabolically active reduced form of coenzyme #1. It's called coenzyme #1 because it ranks highest in importance above all other coenzymes in the body. A coenzyme is a vitamin, and a vitamin is a coenzyme. NADH is a form of the Vitamin Niacin... the hydrogenated form. NADH is the "spark plug" that is responsible for catalyzing the production of ATP, the primary energy carrier in our bodies responsible for muscle contraction, nerve transmission, movement, body heat and most every body function! All metabolism, or human biochemistry, needs ATP with which to function, however, the brain, the nerves, and the muscles of the heart are especially sensitive to fluctuations in the levels of ATP and hence NADH. ENADA®/NADH is the ONLY patented, stabilized, and absorbable form of NADH available.
NADH Successful in treating Parkinson's Disease
NADH is being tested for use in the medical treatments of chronic fatigue syndrome. NADH has been successfully used for years in treating many thousands of patients that suffer from neuro-degenerative and chronic diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.
Since the mid eighties, NADH has been successfully used in Europe to treat more than 3,000 Parkinson's Disease patients. An overwhelming majority (about 80%) of the Parkinson's patients experienced remarkable improvements. In the other 21.6% of the Parkinson's patients, the disease had progressed too far. Their disability prior to treatment was too advanced. Too many brain cells had died before the NADH treatment had begun.
NADH helps Alleviate Depression
In the most recent study of 205 patients with depressive symptoms, all benefited from taking NADH. Clinical trial research has proven that NADH alone has a direct, positive impact in people suffering from physiological depression. NADH stimulates the body's production of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine has a positive effect on the physiological functions of concentration, drive, up lifting mood, strength, and coordination. Dopamine also balances the body's appetite for food. Balanced dopamine and its interaction with serotonin improves the body's sleeping abilities. Dopamine hence helps fights against the feelings of depression, the lack of concentration, the intense feelings of emptiness, guilt, and worthlessness.
NADH's Positive Effect on Neurotransmitters
Clinical study confirms NADH has a direct, positive impact on rebuilding brain neurotransmitters. Production of the neurotransmitter dopamine is increased six fold when taking NADH supplements. It has been scientifically shown that increased dopamine production has a positive effect on the following brain functions: thinking, cognitive functions (like memory & decision making), sex drive, mood, drive, strength, coordination, movement, mobility and much more. Medical science has proven dopamine has a positive impact on growth hormone secretion. Growth hormone secretion is regarded as the key factor for the regeneration of cells and tissue. Increased dopamine, and hence increased Growth Hormone production enhances the body's ability to repair or replace damage and wounded cells. Dopamine has been proven to reduce prolactin secretion, which is the cause of appetite. The higher the dopamine levels in the blood, the lower the appetite. It is believed that higher or normalized dopamine blood levels reduces "binge" eating.
NADH Improves German Parkinson's Patients
In a double blind placebo controlled study performed at a German university hospital, Parkinson's patients were treated with NADH or a placebo. The patients receiving NADH showed elevated levels of L-dopa and dopamine in the blood. Medical science has proven that Parkinson's disease occurs when the brain cells that produce dopamine die. All Parkinson's patients in this German study who were taking NADH improved in their condition.
NADH Stimulates Dopamine and Norepinephrine Production
University studies performed in France found that NADH stimulates not only the increase production of dopamine, but also norepinephrine, by more than 40%. Norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline mediates chemical communication in the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system functions in response to short-term stress and anxiety (the fight or flight response). Norepinephrine mediates the heart rate, blood pressure, the rate of glycogen (glucose) conversion for energy, as well as and other physical benefits.
NADH May Inhibit Dopamine Auto-Oxidation
In neuron cell cultures, dopamine production can be increased by adding NADH to the culture medium. In a dose dependent manner, NADH yields a six fold increase production of dopamine. It is hypothesized that NADH accomplishes this increase in Dopamine by stimulating tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), (the key enzyme for the production of dopamine) in a dosage dependent manner of up to 70%. The neurotransmitter dopamine undergoes what is called auto-oxidation. This process forms cytotoxic agents that may damage very sensitive areas in the basal brain. Research has found auto-oxidation of dopamine occurs significantly more often in older individuals. A dopamine auto-oxidation inhibiting substance such as NADH may help to reduce damage to certain areas within the brain, by lowering the amount of cyto-toxic agents derived from dopamine autooxidation and thus retarding cell death and tissue degeneration.
NADH plays an active role in improving mobility, cognitive functions and memory. NADH does this by stimulating the production of brain neurotransmitters. Dopamine, and noradrenaline are the brain substances essential for alertness, thinking, cognitive functions (like memory & decision making), sex drive, positive mood, strength, coordination, movement, and mobility.
NADH a Potent Antioxidant
NADH has strong antioxidant features, in addition to all its other functions. NADH is the body's most potent biological antioxidant. NADH is the reduced form (energy rich) of the biological compound called coenzyme #1 or NAD. It is called coenzyme #1 based on its level of importance to the body. It's the highest ranking coenzyme in the body. ?NADH is the substance within the cell with the highest reduction power of all biologically active compounds. NADH therefore, has the number one antioxidative capability. ?
The high reducing power of NADH is used in creating energy. The body uses excess NADH as its scavenger of free radicals. Remember this is coenzyme #1. It does the scavenging of free radicals better than any other biological substance known to the body.
Medical science has known for years that x-rays, high energy radiation, and even the sun's UV rays can create free radicals. In the past 20 years medical science has found that free radicals formation is also triggered by: environmental toxins, and some types of chemicals found around the home and office. drugs including some types of antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory medications, ozone, some types of smog, and some types of ?industrial pollutants, smoking, and alcohol, and heavy metals that may be found in food and water.
Small amounts of free radicals are also produced in normal cells by metabolic reactions. Our body possess a defense system to protect its cells from being irreversibly damaged. This system is called the antioxidative protection shield. The first and most important antioxidant component in this shield is NADH. It is the reduced form of coenzyme #1 also called NADH nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is the most potent biological antioxidant because it has the highest "reduction" of unpaired electrons. ?In the presence of free radical inducers (as mentioned above) the intracellular content of free radicals increases considerably. The antioxidative protection system can only cope with the natural amounts produced within the body. The system becomes overwhelmed when large amounts of free radicals are caused by the outside environment.
The more free radicals present in a cell, the more damage a cell suffers leading to earlier cell death. Increased cell death can lead to premature tissue degeneration. Medical science has shown that free radicals are involved in the development of neuro-degenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Free radicals are also involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease, auto immune disease, cancer, coronary disease, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, and much more.
It is vital that a supply of antioxidants or free radical scavengers be sufficient to meet level of free radicals in our body. To keep a sufficient supply of antioxidants in the body an nutritional supplement may be necessary. Said once and twice and once again, one of the most potent antioxidants and free radical scavengers is NADH. NADH enters the cell from the outside world (our diet) and increases the intracellular antioxidant pool.
Antioxidant Pool Declines with Aging
Elderly people can especially benefit from an antioxidant nutritional supplement (like NADH). It has been found that the antioxidant pool within the body declines with aging. This leaves the elderly more vulnerable to free radical damage and the diseases they cause. Protecting cells from free radical damage reduces the risks of developing neuro-degenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer's disease. Clinical studies have shown the higher the levels of NADH the better the DNA repair mechanism works.
NADH is Moved from the Blood to the Cellular Interior
NADH is concentrated in the mitochondria, the energy factories of our bodies. Most NADH is enclosed in the mitochondria in the "matrix". The microsomes and the nucleus contain only minimum amounts of NADH. NADH and NAD+ as well as nicotinamide are transported in the blood from one organ to the other. Using radio-labeled NADH, it can be demonstrated that NADH is able to cross the cell membrane from the bloodstream, since a considerable amount of the labels NADH was found not only in the cytoplasm inside the cells, but also in the mitochondria and the nuclei, also inside the cells. Thus by increasing the levels of NADH in our bloodstream by dietary supplementation we may very well increase the amounts of NADH within our cells , where it is needed to catalyze metabolic reactions, and supply us with energy with which to live.
The function of NADH in the cell takes place in the cytosol matrix of the mitochondria . It is here that NADH goes about it's sacred labor of catalyzing the formation of ATP, the energy rich substance responsible for all movement and every other mechanical means of life in the human body. Of all the energy we consume in our food, about 66% is converted to ATP and the rest is used to heat the body and is then lost to the atmosphere. ATP can be stored and used as needed. Thus it's life giving importance and that of it's Enzymatic catalyst NADH!

Raindrop Recipe:
Step One - Preparation
Supplies: a small warm towel is useful for the final part of the therapy.
Practitioner's fingernails should be trimmed. Pepper is useful to place on top of your head for protection if someone is doing a major release. Apply White Angelica on your shoulders for protection as well.
To prepare for the treatment have the client lie on their back with their head facing North (if possible) on the massage table.
Step Two - Energy Balancing
Apply Valor to the bottom of the feet (6 drops on each foot). Cross the hands with your right hand on the clients right foot and your left hand on the client's left foot, Hold the feet and inhale and exhale the oil along with the client to create an electronic exchange of somatoids in the etheric filed.
On a frequency monitor a regular body is 72 HZ: when breathing with the oils the electrical field increases up to 360 to 370 HZ. If you have a second person assisting with the RDT treatment have them apply Valor on the clients shoulders and hold them on the shoulders.
Step Three - The "Spine" of the Foot
1. After establishing an energy flow, apply oregano on the bottom of the feet and do vita flex on the spine area of each foot.
2. Then apply Thyme and repeat the vita flex on the spine area of the feet.
3. Basil (3 drops)
4. Cypress
5. Peppermint
Step Four - The Spine of the Back
Have the client turn over on their stomach to work on the back.
1. Start with 3-6 drops of Oregano - Short backs get 3 drops. Do 3 sets of 1,2,3's up the spine with 3 inch, 6 inch and 12 inch strokes.
2. Follow up with 8 drops of thyme and repeat 3 sets of 1, 2, 3 strokes of 3 inch 6 inch and 12 inch strokes.
Use both hands doing the 1,2,3 pattern with feather finger fan strokes up the spine. Do this fan stroke 3 times. The stroke is light so that you are not moving the skin but the stroke wakes up the skin,
The fifth stroke is the 1, 2, 3 pattern going straight up the spine using the fans with both hands. If you see some red areas on the back at this time, you may use V-6 mixing oil - The red area is inflammation, bacteria or anything abnormal. You will have done 5 sets of stroking in this step.
3. Apply Basil and repeat the 5 sets of stroking in step 2. This means the 3 inch 6 inch, 12 inch, feather fans across the back and feather fans up the neck. Basil is relaxing to the spine.
4. Marjoram is salt and peppered across the back - You do not have to do the 5 sets of strokes.
5. Instead, you do clockwise circular pulling away movements. Alternate sides of the spine doing 3 sets. Know the history of your client. if they do not have rods in their spine or had serious surgery you can apply firm pressure.
6. Cypress opens the vertebrae and circulation of the spine. Do the 1, 2, 3, alternating hands 3 inch feathering. Next do vita flex with your body facing the head of the client or by standing by the side of the client. (2 positions) Do 3 sets of thumbs up the spine moving the muscle away from the spine to improve circulation and nerve receptors. Do the neck also. Move 1/2 thumb width each time. If the tissue feels dry use massage oil to lubricate. Watch the skin color.
The last set of separation is to use the second finger of the dominant hand and create a fork with the opposite hand making a saw, Do 3 sets of saws. Push on the cranial bones and hold 3 seconds, release, and do 3 times. Then hold for 6 seconds, release and do 3 times.
Next apply Ortho Sport, Marjoram, or Ortho Ease. Salt and pepper the back with one of the above. Then do the push and shake with palms, of hands stroke. Vibrate from the coccyx to the neck and count 1,2,3,4. If you have too much oil on the spine, use a towel. Do 3 sets of push and shakes. The frequency goes up with this technique.
Step 5 - Closing with Valor
We close very quickly with Valor on the spine finishing with 3 sets of feather stroking 1,2,3, 3 inch, 6 inch, 12 inch, fanning and feathering up the spine,
7. Final step is to apply Peppermint (10 drops) - Do 3 sets of the 3 inch strokes and then apply the hot pack. The Peppermint accelerates the Valor and cools the heat generated by the combination of oils.
Note: If a person has scoliosis do not use a hot pack. Use Birch after Basil for scoliosis. Place Release on the neck and rotate the neck left and right.
